About Jim Algar and 843 So Music
JIM STARTED 843 SO MUSIC TO SHARE HIS LOVE OF PLAYING MUSIC WITH THE CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA AREA.  BEGINNING WITH THE GUITAR AT A VERY EARLY AGE, JIM HAS SPENT THE LAST 20 YEARS LEARNING TO PLAY THE GUITAR, HARMONICA, DOBRO, BANJO, MANDOLIN, DRUM KIT,UKE, LAPSTEEL, BASS, PIANO, HAND DRUMS AND IF THE MOON IS RIGHT, THE ACCORDION.

SINGING BEING THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND HIS PASSION FOR MUSIC, IN PERFORMANCE, JIM SINGS A WIDE VARIETY OF POPULAR SONGS AND ORIGINAL SONGS FROM THE 50'S TO TODAY.

WRITING HIS FIRST SONG AT 15, JIM FOUND A LIMITLESS OUTLET FOR CREATING A LYRICAL PORTRAIT OF THE STORIES HE HAS ENCOUNTERED IN HIS LIFE. THE FIRST CHARLESTON BLUES FESTIVAL OF 1996 PUT THE 17 YEAR OLD JIM ON THE BILL AS, THE YOUNGEST BLUESMAN OF THE FESTIVAL. MOVING TO COLUMBIA FOR COLLEGE, JIM STUDIED CLASSICAL GUITAR AND VOICE WHILE PLAYING IN JAZZ, BLUES AND PROGRESSIVE ROCK GROUPS.

AFTER GRADUATING FROM COLLEGE, JIM SPENT A FEW YEARS PLAYING MUSIC ACROSS THE COUNTRY FROM PORTLAND, MAINE TO PORTLAND, OREGON. AFTER YEARS ON THE ROAD AND FEELING THE CALL OF CHARLESTON'S UNIQUENESS, JIM RETURNED TO PLAY MUSIC IN THE CITY OF HIS YOUTH.

OVER THE COURSE OF A WEEK, JIM CAN BE SEEN PLAYING GUITAR FOR A BEACH WEDDING, TABLA DRUMS FOR A BELLY DANCER, AND  LAPSTEEL WITH A LOCAL ROCK GROUP, SOMETIMES ALL IN THE SAME DAY. CALLED BY THOSE IN THE KNOW, CHARLESTON'S MOST VERSATILE MUSICIAN, JIM CONTINUES TO DO THE THING HE LOVES.
